Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Wednesday 30th January - Sunday 3rd February
Newyn Art Gallery, Cornwall

Journey to the Centre of The Earth took place in early 2008 at the Newlyn Art Gallery in Cornwall as part of Transitions: Curators’ Edition.

The show took the 1959 film of the same name, starring James Mason and Pat Boone, as a starting point to brainstorm ideas of exploration, expectation and discovery. Oliver Sutherland’s installation, The Volcano Will Blow, was built throughout the week finally reaching its anti-climactic eruption on Sunday 3rd February. Other artists commissioned to make work for the show were Kitty Wingate, Patrick Lowry and Steven Paige, works by Matthew Houlding, Karen Di Franco and Sovay Berriman were also included.
